Portland Trailblazers Get Helping Hand From Neurocore

After any Portland Trail Blazers game, you can find a varying number of players in the appropriately named “Brain” room undergoing a process where the player is sitting in a chair watching a DVD with electrodes attached to their head. The players are monitored during the DVD and if they are relaxed and watching the content, the show stays on. For those players who have a hard time focusing, the monitoring equipment will perceive the negative choices that the brain has made and will shut off the DVD and will not restart without the brain in question making positive choices. The goals of this brain training exercise is to calm the brain after so much stimulation and to refocus the brain for greater concentration next game. These goals lead to a deeper rest off court in between games. Visit Patch.com to know more about Neurocore.

This type of program that Neurocore uses is a Neurofeedback system and is quite useful in retraining the brain to make good choices. This process can help with a variety of mental health disorders by creating new, positive neural pathways which result in decreased signs and symptoms of mental illness. An inital assesment is completed by a trained technician and clients are paired up with their own specialist for the duration of their treatment. Neurocore’s program has been catching on with other athletes such as quarterback Kurt Cousins.
